Yes, that is what I said. I am going back to college, 27 years after the first time. I have raised three children, had numerous jobs, lived through many experiences and being a writer is now able to be brought to the forefront of my life. I am excited, I am 48 years old, and I am terrified. My daughter is attending online college through Ashford University, my son is attending online college at Phoenix University, and I will be attending online classes at University of Maryland University College (UMUC).
The question is now what do I want to write. I know that writing is what I am going to do. I love travel writing, but I love children's literature, also. For now I will be content to write my school papers and publish them either on Helium or Associated Content. I will be posting links to the various titles, so check back and see where I am going. And please, share your experiences and advise with me as well as anyone who my frequent this site for help. Thanks.

Welcome to My First Blog
I have been writing on helium.com for just over a year now. I have not gotten rich by any means, but I have made money. To be paid for the words I write is quite a rush to me. I write at Associated Content as well. Not near as much, but enough to know that it can be fulfilling and profitable, too.
Do you write? Do you have a favorite website to write for? Have you found a way to fulfill your dreams and eat, too?
I believe that half the battle is finding a website you are comfortable with. Helium is a great site, but I do not always agree with their rating system. AC is a great site, but they don't have as large a call for content. What sites do you write for and why do you like them?

Welcome to My First Blog
My children are grown and I have finally been granted the time to follow my lifelong dream of being a writer. Did any of you know that following a dream could be so much work? Queries, editors, deadlines oh my! I often feel a lot like Dorothy, not in Kansas anymore.
I did factory work to support my children and I truly believe that, for the most part, they could easily train monkeys to do most of what I did. That is no environment to nurture and sustain an active imagination. I am so thankful for my children as they helped to keep my creative mind alive. From writing stories for them when they were bored with the ones they had to inventing ways to keep them occupied and out of trouble (yeah, right! lol) during rainy days, snow days, and all those long, beautiful summer days when school was out.
I wish that I had kept a better journal throughout those years as those memories are what I draw on now for much of my writing. Even the web content and copy has points to be attributed to memories of raising my kids. When I took them to the library to do a report for school, I learned about online research. They were all accepted into magnet schools in the grade school level and the letters I wrote to gain them those entries were my first efforts in copy writing.
Writing is a passion, but it is also a job. The work is in advertising and learning new ways to make a living by following your passion. Not everyone can be a writer, but all writers can be successful. Learn to advertise, seek guidance from those who already achieved fame, and never give up.
I hope to see other writers add to this blog. Comments, and tips, are always welcome.
God bless
